Presentation 1 - Transparent Engineering: engaging enterprise application users via social media

On March 21, 2011 MITRE deployed a new social intranet built on an Open Source portal, using social tools to have a problem free rollout. The rollout cut over 7,600 users to a custom built intranet and resulted in only 13 Helpdesk tickets in the weeks during and after deployment. This is in stark contrast to earlier rollouts of the company portal which resulted in hundreds of tickets and emails that went on for many months after each rollout.
Presenter Bios: Stan Drozdetski and Sarah Rambacher are interaction designers at MITRE, where they are working on improving the usability, accessibility, and effectiveness of the corporate intranet. Stan serves as the product owner for Handshake, MITRE's enterprise business networking application, while Sarah is the lead designer of TRS - MITRE's time reporting system.
Presentation 2 - Usability testing medical devices
Dan Berlin & Chris Hass (Mad*Pow)
Rarely are the procedural stakes higher for usability researchers than when conducting medical device usability research. Yet, doing so can be a "career power up." This case-based presentation provides an introduction to federal and international regulations, example methodology documents, and practical advice for planning and executing medical device usability studies.
